The Prizes
The first prize for this competition will be awarded to two contestants from across Australia and they will each receive a “Dinner-For-Six” experience worth $1000 in either Sydney or Melbourne.
Our sponsors include Bilson’s Restaurant in Sydney and Collins Kitchen at the Grand Hyatt in Melbourne.
About Bilson’s Restaurant: Tony Bilson, the ‘Godfather of Australian Cuisine’, has dedicated his life to the pursuit of excellence in gastronomy. He has been recognised as one of Australia’s leading chefs for over 40 years and his restaurants have been milestones in the advance of Australian cuisine.
Tony opened Bilson’s Restaurant in 2003. It received Two Hats in the 2005 and 2006 editions of the Sydney Morning Herald’s Good Food Guide and then Three Hats in 2007, 2008 and 2009. In his initial review (Good Living, 25 April 2006) Simon Thomsen said: ‘Tony Bilson has never cooked with more intelligence and finesse. Bilson’s is a rare treat that should be loved, adored and honoured by every serious Sydney diner.’ Most recently, Bilson’s Restaurant was awarded an impressive 18/20 by Terry Durack (Good Living, 21 June 2011).
About Collins Kitchen: Collins Kitchen, located at the Grand Hyatt in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD, provides a dining experience unlike any other. The open kitchen is the showpiece of the restaurant, and acts as a blank canvas where chefs become the artists or actors working from their centre-stage, the kitchen. Guests are able to walk through the kitchens for a dynamic and interactive experience.
The dinner for six in Collins Kitchen will be at their Chef’s Table and Executive Sous Chef, Jason Camillo, will be creating an exclusive feast of Collins Kitchen specialties – with all dishes designed for sharing. The team at Collins Kitchen prides itself on offering simple, authentic food using the finest local and organic produce, with an emphasis on visual food displays using various food concepts – including Sushi, Deli, Grill, Wok and Patisserie – to create a unique experience.
The judge: Brescian-born chef Alessandro Pavoni has blasted into Sydney’s dining scene with his first restaurant venture, northern Italian gem Ormeggio at the Spit and his success was rewarded, receiving a Chef Hat by the Sydney Morning Herald’s Good Food Guide this year.
Pavoni’s latest venture takes him to the glittering lights of Westfield Sydney’s prestigious Level Six dining precinct – Spiedo doors will open on 15 August.
